Sustain is the name of the game! Brittle-bronze, sometimes called by it's German name, "glocken-messing" (bell-bronze) is an extremely hard and very dense alloy. Because of its composition, it is able to effectively store any energy that is transmitted to it, which is why--for centuries--it has been used as a material for the manufacture of bells.
A great deal of the energy that is generated by the striking or plucking of an acoustic guitar string is dissipated at the bridge and therefore wasted. The more solidly-built electric guitar utilizes its string energy much more effeciently than the lightly-constructed bridge area of even the finest acoustic guitar. However the new John Pearse® KingPins™ eliminate much of that energy loss, acting almost like small energy 'batteries' at the bridge-end of each string, allowing a more efficient use of the string energy--and greatly improving both sustain and tone!
The number of pins you need depends very much upon the total characteristics of your guitar. A guitar with good tonal balance, string to string, would probably open up considerably by the replacement of all six original plastic or wooden pins with the new Pearse® KingPins™. Then again, just the replacement of the first, third and sixth might be sufficient. Just try and see!
If you have a guitar with a weak treble, you might just need to replace the first three pins--while one with a weak bass response should improve greately if you replace the pins that secure the wound strings. Incredibly, the replacement of JUST ONE PIN can markedly improve the character and tone of your guitar. Experiment! The tonal possibilities are endless!!

New John Pearse® Chamfered Bone or Horn Bridge Pins
John and I were both very excited when we commissioned these new Bone and Horn Bridge Pins and we were not disappointed! We did our best to capture their beauty in the images but they are much more beautiful in person!
The New John Pearse® Bone or Horn Bridge Pins are slotted and the ends of the pins are chamfered--which means that the end of the pin is cut on an angle. When you insert the pin into the string slot, the chamfered end moves the pin past the ball of the string so that the ball seats along the side of the pin much more easily than without the chamfered end. When you are replacing a string in a hurry, it makes your life easier! It also means that your string will seat perfectly each time, not turning your guitar into a pin-launching cannon!
Ever since ivory was banned John has been looking for a substitute that has all the same characteristics...and is just as beautiful! Man-
made plastics may come close but they just weren't close enough. So, he went looking for something that already existed in Nature..the use of which would not be ecologically damaging.
Hand-made from the finest quality camel bone, these beautiful pins are indestinguishable from ivory and will make your guitar both look and sound marvelous! Throughout their lives camels carry such heavy burdens that, as a result, their bones--particularly in their legs--develop a density that very closely approximates that of elephant ivory. For this reason, camel bone has long been favored by carvers who were delighted by its stability and the ease with which it could be polished.

John Pearse® Buffalo Horn Guitar Bridge & End Pin Set was a very strong addition to our Bridge Pin Family of KingPins™ and Faux Tortoise Shell Pins.
As with all our sets, you get SEVEN beautifully carved slotted pins and matching end pin which are inset with Mother of Pearl!This pin is more in keeping with the older style bridge pins which had just a small pearl dot.

We are delighted to introduce these wonderful slotted John Pearse® Faux Tortoise Shell Bridge Pins with Abalone Dots.
Packaged as a set of seven [for seven string guitars or six strings with a spare] these pins are absolutely the closest thing to the appearance of the REAL thing--the trade in which is now illegal, thank heaven! They are created from Casein, a phosphorprotein of MILK [!!] precipitated by heating it together with a mild acid to form this beautiful and extremely hard-wearing plastic!
We have had such an incredible response to these pins, that we now have available the matching end pin AND strap button! A good friend, Wayne Henderson, said we needed to have the set so everything on the guitar would match! And guess what you might find on his new guitars!
Perfect for dressing up that little old Martin or a vintage European Romance guitar, they are wonderful on new instruments too! The John Pearse® Faux Tortoise Shell Pins vary in light and dark just as real tortoise shell would, with a golden warmth highlighted by the shimmer of Abalone Dot Inlays. [Check out the photo to see the variation that is possible!] Their density adds an interesting coloration to the sound of the instrument, similar to that obtained by using fossil ivory.
